Hi Rich,

Thanks for the comment and for the tip re-Marcel Kuijsten's book, I will get hold of it.

I disagree as I think that there are no clear and cut definitions of what gods are and what auditory hallucinations actually are. Jaynes talks about how these societies functioned peacefully and that these messages from the right brain god spot were an important part of that. It was a bicameral consciousness, two minds in one body, and we have no real way of understanding that. Modern schizophrenia seems from my experience and Jaynes examples to be a much more destructive manifestation, probably because it is now an abhorred minority experience.

Anyway I actually think there is more value in the book's first sixty page examination of consciousness, as we are all I think a bit stuck in knowing what consciousness is and possibly overrating it.

Cheers,

Sudha

Incredible book! However I think you may be slightly off in your interpretation. Jaynes argues that what the ancients interpreted as "gods" were in fact what we would today call auditory hallucinations -- not that we had a "neural antenna" so to speak, for divine transmissions.

Have you checked out the follow up book "Reflections on the Dawn of Consciousness" edited by Marcel Kuijsten? It goes into further depth on this and many other topics.

Unfortunately, China is the only country that suggests employ traditional medicine for the poor’s primary health care, which is otherwise done by conventional medicine throughout the rest of the world. When I unveiled this fact, the people in China began suspecting their government. The people asked that if traditional Chinese medicine is compatible with conventional medicine, how come other countries refuse to recognize it?

Over the past sixty years, the Chinese government has been making the mistake of dual endorsement of conventional and traditional medicine. Now, in an attempt to cover up, the government calls for traditional Chinese medicine to join the rest of the world. With the help of the head of the WHO, Mrs. Chen, a Hong Kong native, the WHO announced the Beijing Declaration after a conference in Beijing in November 2008, which subscribed to the backwards situation in China.

The above extract is from William Wang’s article “In the Beijing Declaration, the WHO devalues a human right for the poor by endorsing traditional medicine.". You can find and read the complete article at www.humanrightsdefence.org.

Yours sincerely,

Tomas

Thanks Danny my mistake - I actually live in Maleny now, but this article was written before I moved up here. I have visited Fountainhead many times on business and pleasure. I have amended the geographical reference. Yes Ayn Rand was an interesting character and I actually reread The Fountainhead recently after a hiatus of some 25 years - terrible writing but full of philosophical ideas. I think it is a pretty good indicator of Wayne Parrot's standpoint.

Cheers,
